How to extract DNA from strawberries at home
Ingredients:
1-2 strawberries (frozen is OK)
table salt
dish soap
rubbing alcohol
coffee filter
zipper storage bag
Procedure:
1. Put 1-2 strawberries in a zipper storage bag and mash it with your hands for 2 minutes (not too hard!)
2. Make DNA extraction solution by mixing 1 tablespoon of dish soap and 1 teaspoon of salt into 1 cup of water
3. Add 3 tablespoons of the DNA extraction solution to the mashed strawberry and mix gentle (avoid bubbles) for 2 minutes
4. Put a coffee filter over a cup and filter the strawberry solution through the coffee filter
5. Add 3-4 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol over the filtered strawberry solution and watch the DNA separate
